The three Graces stand for; splendor, mirth, and good cheer. Their actual names were Agalia(Splendor), Euphrosyne(Mirth), and Thalia(Good Cheer). They were the goddesses of joy, charm, and beauty. They were the ones who helped Aphrodite when she came out of the sea near Cythera. They clothed her and guided her to the golden chariot that lead her to Mount Olympus. They are extremely kind goddesses. They also liked to dance and sing on Mount Olympus with their compaions, the Muses. Their parents are Zeus and the nymph, Eurynome. In some myths Agaila was married to Hephaestus, craftsman among the gods, to show the connection between the Graces and the arts. |
