One day long ago a beautiful woman emerged from the sea, her name was Aphrodite. She arose out of the sea near the coast of an island called Cytherea. Zephyr, the West Wind and the gentlest wind, saw Aphrodite and thought that nothing was more beautiful. He helped her by blowing her to the beaches of Cytherea. When she came to the beach she was met by the Three Graces, Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia. Later on they became her assistants. They fed her, clothed her, and showed her a golden chariot pulled by doves that would lead her to Mount Olympus. She thanked them, then she was off to Mount Olympus. When she arrived she was shown to Zeus. Zeus was thinking about her and he thought about how her beauty would make men fight over her. So he had decided to have her marry at once. He knew that Hephaestus, the god of fire, was responsible and reliable. He told Hephaestus that he was to marry the new goddess Aphrodite. He was over joyed. He set off right to work on a girdle that would be embedded with gems that would make her even more irresistible. They were married at once. |
