Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love. She is also Venus in the Roman version. Aphrodite doesn't have parents because she rose out of the sea. She is married to Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire. But she'd rather be married to Ares, the Greek god of war. She had to marry Hephaestus because that is who Zeus chose for her. One of her symbols is the doves which pulled the chariot that took her to Mount Olympus. In this picture Aphrodite is sourounded by doves because the chariot that pulled her to Olympus was guided by doves. |

Aphrodite is mostly known for her beauty and her 'Jugdement of Paris'. This story explains how the Trojan War started. One day long ago a golden apple inscibed with 'for the fairest' dropped into Mount Olympus. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite fought over the apple. They went to Zeus to decide the winner of the golden fruit. Zeus was wise so he told them to go to the Trojan sheep herder, Paris. They all bribed him, but he chose Aphrodite who gave him the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Troy. That is what started the Trojan War |
